Greening Our Operations
From our head office in Toronto to every McCarthy showroom across Canada, our operations are “Growing Green”.
We’re minimizing consumption and reducing waste by limiting materials packaging, using less paper in showrooms and in head office, moving to duplex copying, exploring e-billing, and by making a concerted shift to use more recycled post-consumer paper and materials in marketing products where possible.
Furthermore, all of our locations are now recycling and shifting to more environmentally friendly cleaning products.
We have transitioned light fixtures to use more energy efficient bulbs and occupancy sensors have been installed in low-traffic areas to save energy. Over time, we will explore transitioning to more energy efficient and less pollution-emitting cooling and heating systems in all our buildings.
We also plan to eliminate the use of plastic shopping bags at all of our retail locations with the launch of our “plastic to enviro” shopping bag project. This initiative will help to reduce the estimated 28 million kg of plastic bags that end up in Canadian landfills every year! Our 5 ¢ charge per plastic bag will also be diverted to our GREEN FUND, which will be used to assist with the start up costs of all of our sustainability initiatives.

We are proud to announce our transition to a fleet of energy-efficient vehicles for our sales force. By September 1, 2009, all members of the McCarthy’s school sales team will be driving the new Toyota Prius, one of the world’s leading hybrid vehicles with a reputation for first rate fuel efficiency.
