McCarthy’s
takes seriously the ethical treatment of workers, both domestically
and internationally.
Our Goal is to provide products of the highest quality, and
durability in a way that respects the environment as well
as the health, safety, and dignity of the workers who make
them.
We carefully select factories that not only meet our expectations
but also exceed them in terms of their adherence to responsible
business and fair labour practices.
Before a factory is officially chosen to produce our uniform
products, it must certify its compliance to our Manufacture’s
Code of Conduct, agree to Full Public Disclosure, and agree
to regular audits and visits.

McCarthy’s
has in place a comprehensive Manufacturer’s Code
of Conduct, which clearly and specifically states the
guidelines that each and every one of our suppliers must
adhere to in order to do business with us. »

Through
our membership with the Ontario School Affiliate our factory
database is publicly accessible through the Workers Right
Consortium (WRC). |

We
conduct regular audits of our supplier’s factories,
as well as visit and inspect them throughout the year.
Such visits are presided over by Martin McCarthy and our
Director of Purchasing.
Along with our own visits, and in an effort to increase
the level of Transparency with respect to factory disclosure
McCarthy’s has toured factories in China with delegations
from the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board
in 2003, 2004 and 2005.
These delegations included the Board’s Director
of Education, Chair [of the Board], representation from
the Archdiocese of Toronto, as well as Principals, Senior
Staff, and students.
